Residential & Commercial Building Aeschenvorstadt

Building renovation of a commercial building in a central location in Basel with extension of use to a residential and commercial building.

A building analysis of the property on Aeschenvorstadt showed that the building, which is used purely for business purposes, is in urgent need of renovation. Due to its central location in Basel with direct access to public transport and a wide range of shopping facilities, a change of use was an obvious choice. The building now offers a shop on the ground floor and offices on the four lower floors facing the lively Aeschenvorstadt. Against the quiet inner courtyard and on the top floors, exclusive apartments for urban people were created.

The former passage between Aeschenvorstadt and Brunngässlein was closed in favour of the retail space. The apartments have a high standard of fit-out. The building envelope was renovated according to the latest ecological standards. The façade facing Aeschenvorstadt was clad with a fluted Roman travertine stone. The existing gable roof gave way to a flat roof with extensive greenery. The chosen solution allowed an enlargement of the uppermost apartment with a new terrace to the side of the inner courtyard. The apartments on the courtyard side received an attached balcony tower.
