The Circle at Zürich Airport

Local architect for the design architect Riken Yamamoto for the project phases preliminary project to tender for the largest building construction project in Switzerland.

In a 3-stage competition and out of more than 90 internationally renowned architects the project of the Japanese architects Riken Yamamoto & Field Shop was chosen as winning entry. The proposal promises to become a landmark building in the architecture landscape around Zurich Airport. Externally the building bears reference to the scale of existing airport structures. Internally though it creates the feeling of being in a small city with highly developed urban qualities. The small scale inner-city atmosphere shows typical Swiss restraint. 'The Circle' is the first global place with an ambience of a small city and the synergies of a large one. Blaser Architekten AG had been planning the project with more than 210'000 m2 usable areas as local architects. The role of a total planner is now hold by HRS.
