Market Hall Complex

The Markthalle will be made accessible and opened to the general public. Transparency and connectivity to downtown Basel are crucial: the entrance on Viaduktstrasse will be reopened, and an elegant stairway will cascade from the Steinentorberg into the domed Markethalle. This new axis will strengthen the orientation to the Bahnhof and situate the Markthalle in the larger urban context. New interior and exterior illumination will dramatically accentuate and identify the Markthalle. The space underneath the dome will remain available for use in public, private and commercial exhibitions and events. The opportunity to use a 2'500 m2 domed space will truly be new and unique to Basel.
