Competition for the clarification of future potentials and the development of the exterior of the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse.
The trinational EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse is to receive a direct rail connection for passengers from the regions France, Switzerland and Germany in the next few years. The access and parking situations are also to be improved. The study also aims to show the future potential of the outdoor area and the development of the EAP.
Blaser Architects, together with a competent team of specialist planners, developed a proposal for the future design of the airport area. The rails and the platforms of the new runway should be so deep that they can be completely covered by a new level. It serves as a platform for all 'arrivals' and 'departures' and at the same time assumes the function of a multimodal platform (public transport, drop-off, short term parking, cabs, shuttles, rent-a-car). The roof reflects the passengers' movements and adapts to the functional conditions. The result is an organic form that creates an exciting interplay of light and shadow, of views through and out. The use of elements from public space on the platform creates a new place of encounter and communication. The current borderline is symbolized by a water basin, which separates the two countries according to the current global situation without really drawing a line.
