Credit Suisse, Basel | 2008 - 2010

The Credit Suisse branch Untere Rebgasse is located at a busy vehicular and pedestrian crossroads on the Claraplatz in Kleinbasel, and is housed in a building completed in 1956. As a result of an architectural competition, the new building program required a comprehensive renovation of the entire building including the exterior and mechanical systems. The teller area as well as third-party commercial spaces were relocated, with the teller area being redesigned into a flowing customer-service area with a central courtyard opened by skylights and flooded with natural light. The overriding concept was to create open flowing spaces appropriate for today’s means of communication. The existing arcade was transformed into a dramatic two-story entrance vestibule giving the building a unique individual character. Because of the limited space, the covered vestibule serves both as the bank and commercial building entrance. The buildings energy is Minergie-P standard.
